I have been taking photographs in varying degrees of intensity since childhood and in digital format since 2000. In Europe, the focus of my interests is on technical and railway themes and the environment in the sense of habitat, architecture and (urban) landscape. Outside Europe, this is complemented by an interest in people’s living conditions. All in all, my photography is probably more documentary in character, although my approach to the aesthetics and elaboration of the images is by all means an artistic one.

The presentation of my work on this site takes place in galleries and projects. A gallery is a basically unlimited collection of images on a subject I am interested in. A project is a completed series of pictures by means of which I work on a certain theme. In this way I also want to show the artistic progress in my photographic work that I hope exists. For this reason, the pictures in the galleries are usually also arranged in chronologically descending order.

One focus of my photographic work is on the subject of railways and in particular steam traction. This is the result of the fact that I myself spent twenty years as a volunteer fireman on steam locomotives and was involved in maintenance. In addition, I have been on various boards of museum railways and have helped to found a national and a European umbrella organisation to represent the interests of museum railways. Nevertheless, I have the same qualitative and artistic standards for my photography in this special segment of my work.
